Surprise surge in support for anti-mining activist throws open Ecuador election

Coupled with the landslide approval of an anti-mining referendum in Ecuador’s third largest city, the writing could not be more up on the wall for mining’s future.
If you still don’t see the writing on the wall, the other interesting and painful statistic for the mining sector is that the most openly pro-mining candidate Geovanni Andrade, received just 0.22% of the votes. Out of a field of 16 candidates, he came in next-to-last.
I also urge you to read the Latin American mining investor Otto Rock’s Feb 9th blog post at inknews.com where he recommends that: “If you are still long Ecuador miners, you are a lucky person who has been offered a final chance to get out at a reasonable price so take that opportunity and don’t look back”.
